Cane Toads qualify for Plate Final

The Yarrabilba Cane Toads Last Man Stands side have secured a thrilling final ball victory over The Trouble Makers to secure a position in the LMS Beaudesert Plate Final against The Window Lickers this coming Sunday morning at Glenlogan Park – the victory coming from the bat of Stephen Grace.

The result is a great testament to the side who at the beginning of the season played many rounds being players short, and has shown the continued development of the team building on their Plate Final loss at the annual T10 tournament held earlier this year, the team will now have one final crack at securing the Yarrabilba Cricket Association’s first piece of silverware.

Batting first The Trouble Makers let by Luke Boettcher (50 from 45 deliveries before retirement) posted a competitive 111 for 4 from their 20 overs with the Yarrabilba Cane Toads bowlers able to adapt to conditions and prove runs were hard to come by.

Jason Hart was dismissed for 16 from 9 balls, with Leith Carroll (22 from 27) the only other player for The Trouble Makers as Justin Taylor (1-19), Mitch Le Prou (1-20), Craig Watmore (1-22) and David Sheehan (1 for 20) shared the wickets, while an economical Leigh Reading went for just 17 from his four overs.

As the Cane Toads set about chasing down the 112 required for victory they were thrown into trouble early with both Mitch Le Prou and skipper Callum Whiting dismissed for single figures during the run chase.

Craig Watmore hit 15 from eight balls, including both a four and a six, to help the run chase get back on track and was supported by Daniel Muller, who in the last match brought up his first fifty of the season after regular contributions throughout the season saw his efforts fall agonisingly short, who continued his good form scoring 36 from 36 to keep the Yarrabilba Cane Toads in the hunt.

Justin Taylor contributed with 25 from 31 deliveries but with the scores tied in the final over Stephen Grace had joined Leigh Reading (2 from 3 not out), after a number of nervous dot balls the final ball was delivered with Grace good enough to get it to the boundary to secure a 2 wicket win for the Yarrabilba Cane Toads and book a spot in the LMS Beaudesert Division 2 Plate Final next Sunday morning.
