The Yarrabilba Cane Toads have fallen short from claiming their first win of the season, with the Loganholme Cobras securing a three-wicket victory in their Logan District Cricket Association Division One clash at Tansey Park.
Donning the Yarrabilba Cane Toads uniforms for the first time, after a midweek shipment from the clubs apparel supplier RJR Sports, Cane Toads skipper Nic Feros won the toss and elected to bat first with the teams eager to secure their first win of the season.
The Cane Toads lost opening batsman Shaun Love when he was caught behind of Atul Benson for a seventh ball-duck, before things were made tougher for the visitors when Carl Puruis departed for seven – reducing the associations newest team to 2 for 19.
Wayne Woods and Pat Hansen added 24 to the score before Hansen was dismissed for 14 from 12, before the Cane Toads slumped to 6 for 61 prior to a 98-run partnership between Mitchell Le Prou and Cane Toads skipper Nic Feros added much more respectability to the score.
Feros was the first to blink in the stand-off when he was caught behind for 32 from 48 deliveries, Le Prou brought up his half century before being bowled for 56 from 48 deliveries by Joel Baumgartner before the Cane Toads limped to 9 for 200 from their 35 overs.
The Yarrabilba Cane Toads looked to have the best start possible when they had Cobras opening batsman Manjinder Singh in the opening over, before a 49 run partnership from Brandon Flack and Aaron Pratten looked to have the home side back on track in their run chase.
When Simeon Roberts picked up the scalp of Flack for 19 from 31 it looked as if the Cane Toads may be in with a chance, before a blistering innings from Satnam Singh – 40 from 14 deliveries which included four boundaries and two sixes – looked to end any chances the visitors had of claiming their first victory with the home side racing to 2 for 100.
As Pratten and Loganholme CC skipper Matt Warner edged their side closer to victory with an 84-run partnership, the Cane Toads continued to dig deep showing the fighting spirit picking up a number of key important wickets to have the home side nervous before the winning runs were scored by Loganholme with 35-balls remaining.
