The Executive Committee of the Yarrabilba Cricket Association yesterday informed the Executive team for the Logan District Cricket Association (LDCA) of its intention to withdraw its side from the association’s division two competition.
Based on registration numbers the Yarrabilba Cane Toads entered a team into the Logan District Cricket Association’s 2nd Division competition. However, due to the Covid ravaged year that has been 2020, winter sporting codes ran later than usual on the calendar year, while most summer sports continued to begin on schedule.
As a result some potential players situations have changed, while a couple of others unfortunately suffered long-term injuries during the final weeks of their respective winter sports. This lead to the Yarrabilba Cricket Association no longer having the players to fill two teams.
After being forced to forfeit the opening round of the competition due to the situation above the association was facing the same fate for the second round. Following consultation with 1st Grade skipper Nic Feros, and at an Executive level at the Yarrabilba Cricket Association, the hard decision was made to withdraw the registered Cane Toads side from the Logan District Cricket Associations Division two competition.
“It was not an easy decision to make,” Yarrabilba Cricket Association President Brendon McCoy said of the decision. “But, it was not fair for those players who were committed, for our opponents not knowing if we were going to field a team, financially for the club continuing to pay for ground hire, it wasn’t fair for the association or for our sponsors.”
“Ultimately – it wasn’t good for the game of cricket.”
As such some players have been moved to the 1st Grade side that will continue to do battle in the LDCA Division One competition, others have been offered to be transferred to the Cane Toads Last Man Stands team that plays every Sunday – or players are eligible to opt for a refund and clearance to join another club.
The association at the same time announced to ensure that all sponsors get their promotion that the association will be entering a side into the Warehouse Cricket Association’s Winter Cricket Competition.
